ALDI to Remove 44 More Artificial Ingredients from Its Products by 2027

Batavia, IL – April 22, 2026 – ALDI, one of America's fastest-growing grocery chains, has announced it will remove an additional 44 artificial ingredients from its private label foods, vitamins, and supplements by December 2027. This move expands the company's restricted ingredient list from 13 to 57 total items.

Building on a Decade of Cleaner Labels

The new commitment follows ALDI’s 2015 decision to become one of the first national grocers to eliminate certified synthetic colors from its exclusive products. According to the company, these latest changes are a direct response to customer feedback.

"We are proud to take meaningful steps to make it even easier for families to fill their carts with confidence," said Scott Patton, Chief Commercial Officer at ALDI. "We're delivering simpler ingredients while continuing to provide the quality and value they expect."

What’s Being Removed

The newly banned ingredients include a range of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Among the 44 additions are:

  • Artificial sweeteners: Acesulfame K, Advantame, Cyclamates, Neotame
  • Preservatives & processing agents: BHA, BHT, Potassium Bromate, Calcium Propionate, Propylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide (lye)
  • Colors: Titanium Dioxide, Canthaxanthin, Citrus Red
  • Other additives: Olestra, Phthalates, Talc, Toluene, Brominated Vegetable Oil (already banned in many products)
Note: Some ingredients on the new list, such as Brominated Flour and Potassium Bromate, were already restricted or banned in many countries outside the U.S.

What This Means for Shoppers

  • No price increase: ALDI states it will maintain low prices by finding efficiencies in supply chains and store operations.
  • Same taste & quality: The company says it will work with suppliers to ensure reformulated products meet or beat national brand quality, with products taste-tested up to five times per year.
  • Clear labeling: As products are reformulated in phases through 2027, new ingredient information will be shown directly on packaging.
