Applications Scientists in the Pharmaceutical group provide technical support to both internal and external customers. This is achieved through formulation, custom blending, prototyping, and troubleshooting at pilot and commercial scales. The role requires interpreting scientific data and applying the company’s products in end-use applications such as gummies, tablets, capsules, powder blends, and beverages.

Experience in the food or ingredient industry is highly valued, as it closely aligns with nutraceutical and some pharmaceutical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical R&D support for internal teams and customer projects by testing colors, flavors, extracts, and coatings in various end applications.
  • Lead technical discussions with customers and Account Managers, guiding formulation development and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Recommend optimal products based on formulation requirements, processing methods, target markets, and regulatory considerations.
  • Manage colors and coatings projects, coordinating with the Regulatory team and overseeing timely product sampling.
  • Formulate new solutions, support shelf-life studies, and contribute to the development of marketing value propositions.
  • Utilize analytical tools (such as UV-Vis, colorimeter, pH, and Brix meters) and prepare detailed technical reports and documentation.
  • Travel to customer sites to support product implementation and collaborate with the Flavors team on integrated taste and technology solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science, or a related scientific field.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of formulation experience in coatings, colors, flavors, or food-based applications.
  • An understanding of pharmaceutical development and registration processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with fluid bed and pan coating equipment, granulators, tablet presses, encapsulators, and printing systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management and analytical techniques is preferred.
  • Experience delivering technical presentations in academic or industry settings is preferred.
  • Strong English communication skills are required; proficiency in MS Office and ERP/business systems (e.g., JD Edwards) is preferred.
