Position Overview
A position is available for an Innovation Scientist within the pharmaceutical business unit of a leading global supplier of sensory excipients. The organization specializes in high-quality materials such as colors, coatings, flavors, and extracts for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets.
This role focuses on developing excipients for dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products. Responsibilities include managing new product development across color, flavor, coating, and extract platforms. The scientist is expected to execute projects independently, handling formulation, testing, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver customer-focused solutions at bench, pilot, and commercial scales. Based in St. Louis, MO, the position supports projects across North America and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the innovation pipeline and new product development (NPD) projects to deliver commercially viable, application-focused solutions.
- Partner with technical and commercial teams to identify market gaps and drive new product development initiatives.
- Oversee the Stage Gate process, including resource planning and project execution.
- Deliver successful solutions across color, coatings, and flavor platforms to meet sales targets.
- Ensure launch readiness by managing technical deliverables, study design, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Build cross-functional relationships, facilitate technology transfer, and develop application expertise in areas such as gummies, beverages, and tablets.
- Support commercialization efforts through regulatory alignment, production transfer, training, and development of technical content.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related chemistry field.
- 2+ years of experience in new product development or with technical ingredients in consumable goods.
- Experience in formulation, development, and production of technical ingredients.
- Background in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, coatings, or color applications is considered a plus.
- Familiarity with processing equipment (e.g., fluid bed systems, coating systems, granulators, tablet presses) is advantageous.
- Strong skills in adaptability, organization, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving are required.
- Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, creativity, and proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems.
