Geneva, 15 June 2026 – The International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI) has today unveiled the IOFI Flavor Glossary, a new reference tool designed to promote clarity, consistency, and alignment in the scientific, regulatory, and technical language used across the global flavor sector.

This initiative is part of IOFI’s ongoing commitment to transparent, science-based communication. By consolidating approximately 280 essential terms into a single, authoritative resource, the glossary aims to foster a shared understanding among industry professionals, regulators, researchers, and other key stakeholders.

Developed Through a Rigorous, Collaborative Process

The glossary was created using a structured and iterative methodology that combined the expertise of both internal specialists and industry volunteers. The process involved identifying, reviewing, refining, and harmonizing key terms to ensure uniformity in definition, tone, and structure.

A core principle of the project was the application of a clear hierarchy of references:

  • Primary sources included internationally recognized scientific and technical standards and authoritative literature.
  • Secondary sources drew from regulatory frameworks and established industry references.
  • Where possible, definitions were tailored to the specific context of the flavor industry by prioritizing food-relevant interpretations.

Throughout development, particular care was taken to ensure that definitions remain clear, concise, and accessible, without compromising scientific or regulatory accuracy.
