Penta Fine Ingredients Acquires Synerzine, Names Judy Pruss Chief Commercial Officer

October 9, 2026

Penta Fine Ingredients has acquired Synerzine (ICS Georgia, Inc.), a Georgia-based manufacturer of aroma ingredients. The deal adds more than 1,200 aroma ingredients to Penta's catalog, along with Synerzine's manufacturing operations and customer base. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Judy Pruss, Synerzine's president for nearly ten years, joins Penta as Chief Commercial Officer. She will oversee commercial strategy, customer relationships, and business development for the combined company.

What Synerzine brings

Synerzine has been in business for more than 40 years. Its portfolio includes specialty pyrazines and several hundred natural, kosher, and halal ingredients.

Pyrazines give roasted, nutty, toasted, and savory notes and are widely used in coffee, chocolate, nut, and meat flavors. Some grades and specialty molecules have few suppliers, which makes in-house production of them a meaningful asset for a distributor.

Leadership

Pruss's appointment gives Synerzine's existing customers a familiar point of contact through the transition. Penta also expects her industry relationships to help it win new business.

Penta's year so far

The acquisition is the latest in a series of moves at Penta in 2026:

  • April: Integrated Lora AI into its Sage X3 ERP system for demand forecasting, inventory management, procurement visibility, and supply chain planning.
  • September: Named Greg Robertson CEO, succeeding Mike Size, who remains on the board.
  • October: Acquired Synerzine and appointed Pruss as CCO.

Backed by investment partner Keystone Capital Management, Penta plans further acquisitions in specialty chemical and ingredient distribution and manufacturing.

What it means for the industry

Area Possible effect
Product portfolio Wider range of specialty aroma chemicals and natural ingredients
Manufacturing More in-house production and tighter control over some ingredients
Customers Access to Synerzine's customer base and technical expertise
Supply chain Better demand planning and inventory visibility from the ERP upgrade
Competition A stronger position in specialty ingredient supply and distribution
Growth A base for further acquisitions

Flavor and fragrance suppliers compete on consistency, regulatory compliance, reliable inventory, and access to hard-to-source materials. Owning a manufacturer lets a distributor like Penta offer products competitors can't easily match. For flavor and fragrance houses, the deal could mean buying more of their specialty ingredients from a single supplier.

How much of that materializes depends on the integration: whether Penta keeps Synerzine's specialty product lines and customer service intact, how smoothly the two companies combine manufacturing and distribution, and whether further acquisitions follow.
